What's on at Rubislaw
BECOMING PART OF THE CONGREGATION
Just come along and worship with others. You may already have a church background. You may not. All are welcome and you will find the congregation you are coming into, very friendly and helpful.
If you wish to make your Profession of Faith and 'join the church' you may wish to consider:
ALPHA COURSE
Rubislaw Church will shortly be running an Alpha Course. Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day or weekend away.
CHURCH MEMBERSHIP CLASSES
Courses are held each year for those who are interested in finding out about the Christian Faith and the meaning of Church membership. As the course progresses, participants are invited to consider becoming full 'communicant' members of the Church by making a profession of faith and taking vows at a special Service of Confirmation.
The classes also welcome those who wish to enquire about the Christian Faith without committing themselves to making an affirmation of Faith. Church members are welcome to use these classes as a 'Refresher' Course on membership.
CERTIFICATES OF TRANSFERENCE
When a person or family wishes to join Rubislaw Church from another congregation, they should, if members of the Church of Scotland, give their Certificates of Transference (or 'Lines') to the minister. They should write to the Session Clerk or Roll Keeper of their previous Church to obtain these. Members of branches of the Christian Church other than the Church of Scotland are always welcome to join our congregation.
If members have to leave Rubislaw for any reason, they are advised to contact the Minister or Roll Keeper so that Certificates of Transference can be prepared for them before they leave.
CHRISTIAN GIVING
All members of the congregation are encouraged to share in the life of the Church through their giving. The stewardship of the Church's income is directed by the Congregational Board under the guidance of the Finance Committee. Our Congregational Treasurer is Alan Sinclair.
Church Giving at Rubislaw Church is reviewed annually and all members are invited to attend the Annual Business Meeting of Church and Centre in church on Sunday 20 March 2011.
CHURCH FLOWERS
Flowers are placed in the Church every week. After the services they are taken to the sick, housebound or bereaved to tell them of the love and prayers of the Church. Every member is given the opportunity to place flowers in Church. The Flower List is on the wall in the vestibule at the side door of the church, and Olive would greatly appreciate if more members could sign up from September onwards to do flowers on a date chosen by themselves. There is also a FLOWER FUND for those who wish to make a donation towards the cost of a day's flowers.
YEAR BOOK
A Year Book, giving full details of all aspects of the life of Rubislaw Church is published every September. Copies are available from the Church Office, at the Church Centre

BIBLE STUDY, FELLOWSHIP AND PRAYER
In the account of life in the first Christian congregation in the Acts of the Apostles Ch.2 v 42 we read about certain things that were basic to the life of the Church then and still are today: worship, learning, prayer, sharing in the Lord's Supper and caring for one another. This is still the true pattern of congregational life in the Church and when this life is shared, then the work and witness of the Church flourish. All of these things are catered for in Sunday morning worship and our programme of Christian education, fellowship and prayer.
PRAYING TOGETHER
From September to June there is an opportunity to meet once a month on the third Wednesday afternoon, at 2.10pm, for Bible Study and Prayer in the Quiet Room of the Church Centre.

House Groups provide an excellent opportunity for learning and fellowship together in a relaxed and informal setting. A very warm welcome is extended to anyone interested.

There is a comfortable Quiet Room in the Church Centre for use at all times when the Centre is open. The Quiet Room can be used for private prayer and has a small reference library and tape/CD playing facility and the recording of the current Sunday Service may be listened to at any time during the following week.
